GAFFL has created splits to protect you and your travel buddy incase of a no-show from either party. As your travel buddy is paying you before the trip, you are ensured that you will get the money, in case your travel buddy misses the trip.

Similarly, if you, for any reason do not show up, your travel buddy will get his or her money back.
